2012 Advanced Research Workshop
HOMEHotel: The Workshop will take place in the "U Libecciu" hotel in Pianottoli-Caldarello, which is a village not far from Bonifacio and the Figari airport, in the south of Corsica. All rooms are air conditioned, most have a nice view, there are several family suites. The beach (good sand) is on the territory, there is also a pool, a couple of nice terraces for meals, etc. Sailboats, pedal boats, bycicles, windsurfers available for free for hotel guests. Two tennis courts. Pleasant and eager management, very accommodating. Surroundings: very nice scenery, the very pretty and touristic town of Bonifacio is 20 km away. Generally a superior, unspoiled landscape with mountains in the distance, odd-shaped rocks, very little development of any sort. Arrival Day: the arrival day is Sunday, June 24. If you would like to arrive earlier (Sat. June 23) there may be limited room availability, please say so by e-mail to Alexander_Zaslavsky@brown.edu. The conference will begin on Monday, June 25th as usual.
Departure Day: the Workshop ends on Friday, June 29, but there will be some room availability for departure on Saturday, June 30. If you are interested in staying until Saturday (or even longer) for a modest additional fee, please let Alex know, by e-mail to Alexander_Zaslavsky@brown.edu, as we will need an approximate head count.
Air: the Figari airport (airport code FSC) is only
15 km
away and is served by several daily non-stop flights from Nice,
Marseille, Paris (Orly) and probably Lyon (Air Corsica and Air France,
some schedules not yet released). The
hotel
will pick up all guests at
Figari
regardless of arrival time. There is a bigger but somewhat less
convenient
(two-hour drive away) airport at Ajaccio (airport code AJA) with
non-stop
service to London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva, as well as Nice,
Marseille, Lyon, and
Paris
(Orly airport, so Charles de Gaulle-Orly transfer is required; Air
France
runs a shuttle between the two airports).
As of Feb 3:
Air
Corsica schedules are released,
with flights from Marseille and Nice for less than €200). Air Corsica flights
from
Nice and Marseille are reliable, but should be booked in
advance.
Auto/Ferry: There are many overnight ferries to Corsica, to
Ajaccio, Propriano, and Porto Vecchio from Marseille, Toulon, Nice, and
Genova (for schedules, see ferry company sites http://www.sncm.fr and http://www.corsicaferries.fr)
